We provided complete architectural services for an eight-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of NewYork-Presbyterian. This unit was designed to handle additional patient volume and to mimic the existing fifty-bed NICU in the Main Building. This similarity allows the staff to work in either facility without any additional training or adjustments to their surroundings.
Wide aisles are used between the separate infant care spaces for easy equipment access, privacy and space for family. Nursing desks, distributed throughout the space, support the type of primary nursing care provided in this unit.
The NICU was designed to comfort and calm the newborns and their visiting family, while providing them with state-of-the-art care. Patients, family members and staff benefit from an abundance of natural lighting that is controlled through the use of multiple layers of easily adjustable shades and dimmers.
