With advancements in image guided surgery and neurological technology, the first fully integrated BrainLAB intra-operative MRI Neurosurgery Suite was Developed by BrainLAB AG. The innovative design of the BrainSUITE which integrates surgical and diagnostic tools, more specifically the intra-operative high-field MRI with the Operating Room environment and equipment, is the first of its kind in the world.

Jeffrey Berman Architect was asked to integrate this new system into the Neurosurgery Department of Staten Island University Hospital. The Suite consisted of an operating room, equipment room and additional ancillary space totaling 2,000sf. Close collaboration was required between the architect, engineers, German manufacturers, and client in order to insure that their German based system would be successfully integrated into the Hospital while meeting New York State Hospital Code requirements.
