Staff Housing

New York Methodist, Brooklyn, NY

When New York Methodist Hospital needed more housing for its staff they came to Jeffrey Berman Architect. Our firm designed and oversaw the gut rehabilitation of three adjacent buildings in Brooklyn’s Park Slope neighborhood. The renovation of these brownstones included the installation of central air conditioning, cogen hot water, laundry facilities, and tenant storage. Each brownstone contains four stories and a basement for a total of 32,000 square feet.

Originally, the apartments in these buildings had a railroad layout. Methodist Hospital, challenged by problems matching roommates, asked Jeffrey Berman Architect to redesign the building to maximize the number of units available for their staff. Our optimized layout for the buildings included 36 one bedroom apartments and 4 studio apartments
